ABOUT US
Danielle | winemaker
While studying chemistry at the University of Colorado at Denver, Danielle sensed that laboratory research was not fulfilling her passion. Throughout her young adult life, Danielle’s father, Jack Langlois, while sharing his love of wine, continually encouraged her to move to California and explore winemaking. Finally, in the late summer of 2013, she took his advice and moved to Sonoma. There, Robert Kamen gave Danielle her first opportunity in the industry working as a cellar intern for harvest.
Danielle worked for wineries large and small over the years and wanted to give winemaking a shot. She purchased one ton of Mourvèdre grapes from the Castanho Family Farm and with a lot of early morning and late afternoon punch-downs, plus a little help from her friends, made her first wine. Danielle was hooked.
Jambe de Bois was born out of her yearning to study winemaking and develop her own unique style. Every vintage is different not only because of the weather that shapes it, but also the experimental and bold techniques employed to make the wine. “Jambe de Bois is my creative outlet. These small batches of wine are meant to be a discovery of different winemaking processes as I learn more every year. One thing I know about wine, is I will never be done learning.”
Dan | winegrower
Dan, armed with a background in geology and a passion for organic agriculture, either by fate or circumstance, stumbled upon the godfather of organic vineyards, Phil Coturri. Dan moved to California with his soon to be wife, Danielle Langlois, in early 2014. Phil gave him his start in wine-growing where he worked with the vineyard crews at Kamen Estate. Over his six years working with Enterprise Vineyards, Dan studied all aspects of organic farming, including biodynamic agriculture and Korean natural farming. He helped manage almost all vineyards Jambe de Bois Wines sources from and continues to keep a careful eye on the growth and maturation of each vintage. While Dan keeps very busy in the vineyards, he is also known to lend a hand in the winery whenever needed. Dan is an integral part of the husband and wife Jambe de Bois Wines team.
THE MAN, THE MYTH, THE LEGEND
Jambe de Bois means “wooden leg” in French and as family legend goes it was adorned to my peg legged ancestor. Tales of Jambe de Bois Langlois, who sailed the seas of the French West Indies, filled my childhood. This wine of his namesake is my effort to take the sweet treasures of the earth and make them into delicious and wonderful expressions of their terroir.
Have fun enjoying the bounty.
